Dr. Hautea is a professor in the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). Her areas of interest and expertise are plant molecular genetics and breeding, plant genetic resources , crop biotechnology and biosafety. As a scientist, she has led several internationally- and nationally- funded research grants, authored and co-authored well-cited scientific publications and presented numerous papers in national and international scientific conferences. As a teacher, she contributed to curriculum development and has taught courses in her areas of expertise. She has mentored undergraduate, M.Sc. and Ph.D students, and young research staff. Dr. Hautea served as Director of the Institute of Plant Breeding, Regional Coordinator for Southeast Asia of the Agricultural Biotechnology Support Project II and other positions including as board member, technical expert and external reviewer in national government agencies, international organizations and peer-reviewed scientific journals. Dr. Hautea obtained her B.S. and M.S. degrees from UPLB, and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is a recipient of various honors and awards including as Fulbright-Hayes scholar, Rockefeller Foundation post-doctoral fellow, National Academy of Science and Technology of the Philippines’s outstanding young scientist and 2017 UPLB outstanding researcher.
