Tim Sharbel

GIFS Research Chair in Seed Biology | Professor, Department of Plant Sciences
GIFS, University of Saskatchewan
Canada

Research Interests

Dr. Sharbel’s research program is focused on apomixis (asexual plant reproduction via seeds) in natural populations, using evolutionary theory, population genetics and advanced “omics” methods, with the goal of identifying apomixis factors for agricultural improvement. He is also involved in long-standing projects in Germany on apomixis and reproduction in medicinal plants, including St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum) and German Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) with the goals of applying this knowledge to dementia research and digestive applications.
